Just a little Hook Up

I'm back! I survived my finals and in about a week and a half I should be graduating law school! It's exciting and scary all at the same time after being in school for the last 20-ish years of my life.

My return brings some swatches of the upcoming Pretty Bitch Polish Bring in the Sun collection. I usually list these in group posts, but I wanted to get some stuff rolling on the blog until I can amass a ton of swatch posts for you all.

You saw the press release including this baby last week. This is Hook Up which is a bright blue linear holo with a silver fleck in it. The formula is great and gives good control. I did two coats with no topcoat for these. The ring finger is an accent of Fucking Amazing which is from the Fucking Loaded holographic microglitter collection. It is a cobalt blue in a very lightly tinted cobalt base.

Lilypad Lacquer Red Pearl

When I was scheduling the PB Press Release, I found this saved in my drafts folder. Somehow I never got around to writing the post!

One of my favorite collections to wear is the Lilypad Lacquer Pearl Collection. This consists of several polishes with darkened or grey bases with gorgeous colored shimmer included. I think there is also some flakie magic swirling in the holo pot. These look amazing in natural light and really come to light in the sun too.

Red Pearl is a deep grey with a touch of blue base with an intense red shimmer to it. You can see in the second picture that the holo bend on this is one of the best. These pictures are two coats of Red Pearl in the sun. They were taken on my cell phone instead of my usual camera so these are no edits fresh from the source :-P I hadn't intended to post these, but the color is just too pretty not to so please excuse the dry cuticles!

Bring In the Sun Collection-Press Release

As you all I know, I love Pretty Bitch Polish :) While I'm pretty MIA from the blog for a bit to focus on my last set of law school finals ever, I did get some lovelies in the mail. Since I will be a bit delayed on swatching them, I threw together some Press Releases to let you all see how gorgeous the holo part of the collection is. There is also a glitter collection releasing with it. Here are all three of the PRs for your viewing pleasure!

Rainbow Honey March Mystery Bag

Here is a quick unwrapping and some of my initial thoughts of my March Rainbow Honey Mystery Bag! They have recently decided to bring back their mystery bags which include minis of some of their upcoming products or favorites. Since I received mine, they have decided to make this a monthly subscription service if you want it!

For the Rainbow Honey sub, you can choose mini sizes or full sizes. The mini is $10 plus shipping and the full size is $25 with free shipping. Each will include polishes and product! Right now, they are upcoming product RH is thinking of releasing soon. I love this idea! It allows them to get feedback on what people like and to release some small batch goodies.

March included a mini of All My Stars which was their planned release for the April LE; The Soiree which might launch later this year; a cuticle oil they are testing for their new line; a mini of their Lavendula perfume which just released in April; and a tester of their new hand cream which will be launching soon!

I immediately ripped open the hand creme and cuticle oil and I am in love with both of them. They have a light honey scent which isn't overpowering. I hate when cuticle oils are so strong they over power any perfume I might be wearing that day. This is light- present but not too much. I can't wait for them to launch. I recently tried RH's cuticle balm and these are on par with it! Please come out with a peppermint version!!

The Lavendula perfume was a little too floral for my taste, but it does have a pleasant scent to it.

Of the two polishes, I haven't used The Soiree yet, but it looks fantastic. I used All My Stars in a mani last week and it's perfect. The glitter payoff is great and it has a fun feel to brighten up any mani. It also helps that I have a hopeless addiction to all things star shaped :)

What do you think? Will you be jumping on the Rainbow Honey sub train?

Literary Lacquers- Some Glad Morning

After trying this untried, I can tell you know that I will be giving this brand some more love! Literary Lacquers is a brand that is all about references to- you guessed it- novels :) As an avid reader I love seeing where she finds inspiration.

This particular polish- Some Glad Morning is a custom Amy created for a Facebook group I am in. It is a super squishy super holo turquoise that also had a bit an extra shimmer in it. It looked a bit thin in the bottle so I layered it over a cream colored base coat to prevent VNL. I realized though that it would have been fine in 2-3 coats without a colored base. While it was a thinner formula, it still gave great control and this is with little clean up needed.

I topped two of my fingers with Rainbow Honey All My Stars which is their LE polish for April to celebrate their birthday! I am a star addict so I love this topper. I did have a bit of fishing for the stars, but they settled well into their base with few rough edges. The base for All My Stars is a clear base with holo particles and small glitter and flecks making it nice and sparkly.

Two coats of Some Glad Morning topped with All My Stars in indirect light. The sun wasn't wanting to come out!

Here you can see those extra shimmers and flecks come out in both of these polishes.

When Things Don't Go Quite Right

Usually the only manicures that make it onto my blog are the ones that are successful and look all pretty and polished. For once, I figured I would show you one of those uh-ohs that just wasn't right.

Before I took this one off, I made a decision to share it with you all instead of immediately removing the botched idea. Initially, I wanted to do some quick and fun nail art instead of just a holo or a cream topped with glitter. For the base I used Bondi Limelight which is a quick one coat lime. Bondi has a lot of controversy around it, but I already owned this- so why not use it. I liked the idea of pairing it with this pretty purple I have from Wet N Wild.

I let the Bondi dry before putting some chevron decals on to add the purple on top. Well here is "things went wrong" situation 1. The purple changed colors when applied! I even put two coats to make sure the lime wasn't peeking through but it still changed to this weird purple/red/brown color. Hoping to salvage it, I still put topcoat on to see how it looked. Well, even after a few minutes of drying, the purple streaked with the top coat. Fail.

So here is the resulting mess. I included a bottle shot with the purple to show you what I thought I was getting and what I actually ended up getting!

Peita's Polish Miss Dixie- An Overload of Pink!

Continuing my strange pink kick that I've been on, I have the mother of all neon pinks- Peita's Polish Miss Dixie. This is now my holy grail of go to polishes for pink.

Miss Dixie is a neon pink shimmery creme with a scattering of holo-like shimmer and a blue flash to it. This went on easily in two coats and self leveled wonderfully. I had minimal clean up with this and great control. As you can see, this wears like a dream because these photos were taken after 4 days of wear. I topped it with a gradient of Lynnderella A Party of A Dress which is a blend of purple and blue glitters.

This thing is so shockingly pink in real life that I bet you will just stare at it all day. And look how tan it makes me look :) Just looking at these as I post them makes me want to go put it back on.

You can see the blue shimmer peeking out!

Peita's Polish can be ordered through her online store at peitaspolish.com and you can keep up with her releases on her Facebook page :)

Spring Pastel Holos from Pretty Bitch Polish Pt. 2

Today, I have the second half of the Pastel Holo collection I previously showed you. These babies are packed full of holo pigment as usual and come to a lovely linear finish which just sparkles in the sun.

This collection will launch at 9 PM EDT on Monday April 7th. For a full list of what will be releasing, check out her press release at the bottom.

The first polish I have up for you today is Blow Job. Blow Job is a powdery light blue reminiscent of the spring skies. This has a nice icy blue feel in the shade as well. This went on smoothly in two coats and self leveled well. It does have a slight metallic finish you so will want your last stroke to be down the middle of the nail to avoid brush strokes. It has a nice linear holo to it when exposed to light and a subtle golden shimmer.

Blow Job in the shade- 2 coats. This is a pastel blue holo with a slight golden shimmer. The shade shows its cooler more icy side.

Next up is Golden Shower. This is a super squishy pastel yellow that builds to full opacity in 3 coats. You could likely get away with two coats, but the camera is picky so I had to use three. This polish also has a red shimmer that gives some extra dynamic. If you want the color to go deeper, you can layer it alone or over darker colors. It can also be layered over white to give it a super pastel look. It was a little thinner than the creme based holos, but still manageable as always. I forgot to take a shade picture so this one is sadly missing that aspect :(

Golden Shower in full sun- 3 coats. This is a super squishy yellow holo with a red shimmer that can also be layered easily to adapt the color to your liking. The ring finger is one coat over Crack Whore.

Continuing her Bitchy Zodiac monthly set Jaclyn has presented us with Ram It Up Your... This is a chome-like silver diamond holo topper. I layered three coats of it on its own for this mani, but you could also use a thin coat over any base color to give it a nice chromatic holo finish. The sparkle in this one is just insane and couldn't be captured on camera. Think of tiny microscopic diamonds dancing on your fingers! Since it is slightly a chrome, you do need to be cautious of brush strokes, but a last stroke down the middle of the nail will fix most issues.

Ram It Up Your... 3 coats in full sun. This is a silvery chrome like diamond holo polish that could also be used in a thin layer as a silvery holo topper.

The last polish I have to show you today is a re-release of a past favorite. Sex Kitten made its premire in January and its back! This is a pastel purple that has metallic microflakes and holo pigment in it. As result it has a metallic, flakie, holo finish that is complex in any lighting. The formula was great for having so many different types of pigments packed into it.

I Said Yes! An Engagement Celebration

Just before I had my lucky moment of getting to marry my best friend, my dear friend Jaclyn of Pretty Bitch Polish had the same wonderful experience.

Her fiancé sang Train Marry me to her in a candle lit room full of roses. Once he finished he held out their cat who had the ring attached to her collar! Talk about romantic!

To celebrate she created a special polish to be reminiscent of the diamonds in an engagement ring. She packed it full of holographic heart and smaller circle glitters and holographic and iridescent glitters of varying sizes.  As result, it is an intense rainbow filled party on your nails. The iridescent glitters also capture that blue sparkle diamond have when they catch the blue skies on a sunny day.

I layered I Said Yes! over top of Sex Kitten from her core collection. Both will be released again on Monday April 7th at 9pm EDT. I Said Yes! will be a pre-order while Sex Kitten will be a normal restock. The hearts did take a little bit of fishing as big glitters always do, but they are so well suspended it took no effort at all. If you just wanted to avoid the hearts and use this separately as a holo/iridescent glitter topper, you could easily do that too. I only had to use one slightly generous layer of top coat to tame any edges of the glitter that were present. If you have less curved nails than me, you probably won't have any work to do.

One coat of I Said Yes over Sex Kitten in full sun. I did come back and do some extra glitter placement on the ring finger. The dark-ish "spots" are holo glitters that just didn't reflect back in the image. *The ring is mine and doesn't come with the polish :-P Sorry ladies!*
Check out that rainbow holo coming through!

In the shade. It still reflects any ambient light that might be around :)

You can find Pretty Bitch Polish on Big Cartel and on Facebook. Her next restock is Monday April 7 @ 9PM EDT.
